Cricket and hockey may become fixtures at the 10th South Asian Federation Games to be hosted by Sri Lanka in April 2006, an official said today.
Sri Lanka’s National Olympic Committee Chairman Hemasiri Fernando said South Asian sport authorities will decide about this proposal on June 23 when Sri Lanka launches a 300-day countdown for the 2006 event.
He said Sri Lankan Sports Minister Jeevan Kumaratunga has proposed that cricket be included in the 10th SAF Games while India, Pakistan and Bangladesh have called for hockey to be part of the event.
India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka are expected to participate in the SAF Games scheduled to be held from April 18-29.
Wai Wai to Sponsor Cricket
Wai Wai instant noodles has became the latest product to sponsor cricket in Nepal. After Carlsberg ended its sponsorship prematurely, Cricket Association of Nepal was sponsorless.
Wai Wai will sponsor the Under-19 National League for five years and one another school-level national tournament, according to CAN release. CAN and Fast Food Nepal Pvt Ltd signed the agreement in this regard yesterday.
