Nepal lifts WCL Div 5 beating USA

Rahul Vishvakarma made a grand comeback bowling a magical spell of spin that helped Nepal win their first major tournament defeating USA by five wickets on Saturday. The left-arm orthodox bowler took 7/15 to reduce USA from 150/3 to 172 all out — a score that Nepal surpassed in 46.5 overs losing five wickets to the delight of 15,000-odd fans at the TU Ground.

Nepal, USA qualify for Div 4

Despite a five-wicket defeat against the USA amidst bad behavior of the spectators, Nepal qualified for the final and earned promotion to Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 4 being a whisker ahead on net run rate. After scoring a lowly 162/9 in 50 overs in a jam-packed TU Cricket Ground, Nepal neither succeeded in defeating the USA nor making them win taking more than 38 overs — a point initially calculated safe for Nepal to reach the finals.

‘Nepal needs ambition to break into top 10’

Matthew Kennedy, the ICC Global Development Program Manager, is in Kathmandu for the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League (WCL) Division 5. He joined International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2000 and has been serving in the current position since January, 2004. Sharad hits century as Nepal beats Fiji

Sharad Vesawkar was omitted from the preliminary squad for the World Cricket League Division 5 and was the last minute inclusion after a pull-out. He wanted to prove decision of his exclusion wrong and he did it perfectly. Sharad scored an unbeaten century, only third in Nepal’s history of one-dayers with a skill and form that reminded many of his talents and potential. His century brought Nepal a 193-run victory over Fiji at the TU Ground.

Blazing Paras brings easy victory

Captain Paras Khadka will probably declare the BSAM Ground his favorite for his two innings there has produced him two thumping victories, two half-centuries and two man-of-the-match awards. His unbeaten 71 against Bahrain brought Nepal an eight-wicket victory and pushed his team towards the qualification to World Cricket League Division 4. It was third victory in as many games for Nepal in the WCL Div 5.

Spinners give Nepal nervous win

Nepali bowlers held their nerves to defend a lowly total against Singapore and register a 16-run win at the IOE Ground in the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 5 on Sunday. Nepal bowled out Singapore for 164 in 47.5 overs after scoring 180/9 in 50 overs. The heroes of the win were the Regmi duo of Basant and Sanjam who dominated the proceedings in either innings.

Paras leads victory over Jersey

Paras Khadka played a captain’s knock as Nepal made a winning start in the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 5 defeating Jersey by six wickets at the BSAM Ground. USA’s Steve Messiah made it a captain day playing the leading role in its huge 285-run victory over Fiji at the IOE Ground while Singapore overcame Bahrain challenge by 126 runs at the TU Ground.

PM Nepal inaugurates WCL Div 5

Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Friday inaugurated the Pepsi World Cricket League Division 5 amidst a funtion at the Soaltee Crowne Plaza in Kathmandu. “The government is determined to develop cricket as the national sport,” PM Nepal said while inaugurating the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 5 in Kathmandu.

Dipendra’s 12 years of cricket

Team announced for WCL Div 5

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced the national team for the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 5 to be held in Kathmandu from February 20 to 27. Birgunj’s Anil Mandal has been included in the national team for the first time. A slot for opening batsman was empty after experienced Paresh Lohani pulled out of the team citing personal reasons.

Road to WC 2015 passes through Nepal

The long and winding journey towards the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 makes its next stop in Nepal shortly with six teams competing in the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 5 (WCL Div. 5) from 20 to 27 February. The WCL gives the ICC’s Associate and Affiliate Members a clear pathway towards qualification for the pinnacle event of the limited-overs game.

SAG Cricket: Nepal fails to impress

Nepal concluded the South Asian Games (SAG) as expected with losses against Test nations and a solidarity win over Maldives. On the bronze medal match against Pakistan, Nepal gave a tough fight. Winning toss, Nepal scored 147/6 in 20 overs but failed to defend it as Pakistan reached the target in the last over losing eight wickets. Pakistan claimed the bronze medal in the five-team events. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh reached the final.

Buddhi to officiate in World T20 qualifiers

Nepali cricket umpire Buddhi Pradhan and four others from the ICC Associate and Affiliate International Umpires’ Panel have been appointed for the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers 2010 scheduled for February 9 to 13 in UAE. Aleem Dar, the Umpire of the Year 2009, is the lone appointee from the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Umpires who will also be performing mentor’s role to the associate umpires.
