Nepali umpires making history at WCL Div 6

Pepsi World Cricket League Division 6 got underway in Singapore from Saturday. In the first day’s play between Norway and Botswana, which Norway won by 19 runs, Sanjay Gurung, a Nepali umpire, not only made his debut in an ICC event but also fulfilled his cherished dream. Gurung accompanied world number one umpire Simon Taufel in the match. Taufel, whom ICC adjudged world’s best umpire since 2004, was in Singapore as tournament inspector but later decided to play his role as field umpire in the match.

Nepal to play Malaysia in ACC T20 opener

(Updated with fixture on September 8.) Nepal will begin it’s campaign against Malaysia in the ACC Twenty20 Championship in UAE in Group B which also consists Oman, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain. The event will be held in UAE from November 20 to 30, according to Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).

Roy Dias – Magician with the willow

CAN secretary Pandey expires

The secretary of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), Shashidutta Pandey, died on Saturday morning. Pandey, 58, was suffering from jaundice and died in the course of treatment at the Medicare Hospital, Chabahil at about 6:45 am. He was admitted to the hospital at midnight Friday.

Cricketers meet Prime Minister

A delegation of cricket players met Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal at his office in Singha Durbar requesting the government to support in development of cricket. Captain Binod Das handed over a memorandum to PM Nepal that demanded jobs for players, making of cricket teams in Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nepal Army, facilities to cricketers equivalent to other national players and initiative to develop physical infrastructure.
