Interview with Kaniska
If Nepal wins the ACC U-19 Cup cricket tournament for the third time, it would be Kaniska Chaugai who would lift the cup. Kaniska, who had been taking charge of any level team for the first time, is confident that Nepal will successfully defend the title it had won in 2001 in Kathmandu and 2003 in Karachi, Pakistan.
Kaniska was part of the both team playing important role as the opener. He was man of the final in 2001 while the best batsman in 2003. This time however his success won’t be counted on his individual performance but the team’s performance. NepalCricket.com had a chat with the 19-year-old boy from Kalaiya about the upcoming event. Excerpts:
What do you expect from the event?
The cup.
How can you be so confident?
We have a very balanced team with experienced players. No one in the team is new or without any international exposure. Some of us have already played in Youth World Cup.
Besides our bowling standard is very high for this level with good seamers and spinners.
Is this the best ever U-19 team?
On paper, it is. But we have to prove that on field.
What should the nation expect from you then?
Hope that I would lift the cup because here team’s performance matters more than my individual performance.
Which team would be the tough competitor?
Our semifinal match would be crucial. Definitely, Malaysia as two-time runners-up to us and Afghanistan, from their previous performance at age-group tournaments, would be tough teams.
What would be benefits of playing at home ground?
We will enjoy familiar playing conditions, weather and ground. Besides there would be crowd support, I believe the stadium would be packed.
What do you think about super-sub rule?
Nepal will be the biggest beneficiary of the rule as all our team members are very good.
Good luck!
