Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) awarded Sarad Vesawkar and Amrit Bhattarai a motorbike each while also providing each of 17 members of the team Rs. 15,000 cash for winning the ACC U-19 Cup.
Sarad was awarded as the best batsman while Amrit was declared the best bowler. Kaniska Chaugai, Bantu Bataju and Paras Khadka received a 14-inch color LG television for the best individual innings, best bowling figure and most catches. Kaniska had scored 78* against Kuwait semifinal while Bantu bowled 5/29 in the final against Malaysia. Paras took six catches in five matches.
Bantu for being man of the final was awarded Rs. 25,001 by Moondrops Manpower. One of the motorcycle was sponsored by 21st Century.
“It’s great motivating factor,” Sarad said after the program. “It has encouraged me to do even better in coming tournaments,” Amrit, who played his second international event, added.
During the program, Minister for Sports Radha Krishna Mainali assured that the government would honor the team for their achievement. “It will be more honor than monetary, but I assure that we will think on this,” the chief guest of the program said.
“This is an issue of pride,” National Sports Council (NSC) member-secretary Kishore Bahadur Singh. “CAN should immediately begin the training for the Youth World Cup in an appropriate venue.”
CAN president Jai Kumar Nath Shah requested Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to fund Nepal’s preparation tour to Sri Lanka or any other country. “I request ACC to fund for abroad training for the Youth World Cup,” Shah said. “We should perform well in Sri Lanka.”
CAN vice-president TB Shah, the tournament co-ordinator, thanked all for supporting the tournament and said it gave immense pleasure to organize and complete the event.
“It is great honor to be part of the event and this function,” ACC Development Manager Sultan Rana said. “I appreciate CAN, other associated people and match officials for the successful organization of the event.”
“On behalf of ACC I congratulate the team for winning the event for the third time,” he said. “I believe cricket in Nepal, with people like Roy Dias attached, is on safe hands.”
