Three Nepali cricketers from the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup Plate Championship winning team would receive a 150cc Pulsar Motorcycle for their performance in Colombo, Sri Lanka, the Rotary Club of Nagarjun announced here today in a press conference.
Captain Kaniska Chaugai, spinner Basant Regmi and wicket-keeper Mahesh Chhetri would receive the bumper prize for finishing in top 10 in their respective area. Kaniska scored 234 runs in six matches with two half-centuries to finish in sixth position of highest run scorer while Basant took 12 wickets to claim eighth position in top-wicket takers’ list. Mahesh had 12 victims finishing fourth among wicket-keepers.
The prize would be distributed on March 10 amidst a ceremony. Crown Prince Paras is scheduled to give away the prizes, the club informed. The club, the first Nepali rotary club to receive Paul Harris Fellowship, would also give away cash prizes to two Olympians who broke the national records at the Olympics Games, Athens, Greece. Rajendra Shrestha of 5000m race and Alice Shrestha of Breast-stroke will each receive a cash boost of Rs. 25,000.
“We are happy to award the players of national pride,†Lalit Bahadur Bam, the program co-ordinator and president-elect of the club said during the press conference. “We will be encouraged to honor more players in future by this program.â€Â
Golchha Organization sponsored a motorbike while Rotary Club of Nagarjun bought the other two. Organization’s representative Raju Bhetwal was present in the press conference. The market-price of the 150cc Pulsar is Rs. 1,39,900.
Meanwhile, issuing a press release yesterday, president of Cricket Association of Nepal Jai Kumar Nath Shah announced CAN would soon announce the prizes for all the players of the U-19 team and requested various corporate houses and other business organizations to come forward to honor the players.
