National Sports Council (NSC) has appointed a new executive committee for Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) under Binaya Raj Pandey ending Jai Kumar Nath Shah’s 41-year-long reign.
The anticipated change came on the eve of Vijaya Dashami, the biggest festival celebrated by the Hindus in the country. Pandey served as the secretary and then vice-president before being cut out from the list in the last re-shuffle.
The new committee includes Shree Harsha Koirala, Birendra Gurung, Basant Lal Shrestha, Upendra Bhattarai, Chatur Bahadur Chand and Ramesh Silwal as vice-presidents. Koirala had served CAN in same position while Bhattarai was long-time member. Chand is one among two members from the last committee – the other being member Prem Century.
Damodar Suwal, who had served CAN as joint sectretary during late 90s, has been given the responsibilty of General Secretary while Sashi Pandey, the former treasurer, has been appointed secretary. A Chartered Accountant Tanka Paneru has been appointed the treasurer.
Members of the new committee include Tarak Mani Dixit, three former national captains Uttam Karmacharya, LB Chhetri and Pawan Agrawal along with Krishna Lal Karn, Shailesh Chaudhary and Binay Rajbhandari. A representative of NSC would also act as a member.
