ICC Suspends Two Nepali U-19 Bowlers

International Cricket Council (ICC) has prohibited selection of two Nepali under-19 players in any national teams as a bowler for the suspect bowling action, a senior cricket official confirmed on Monday. “ICC sent us a correspondence reporting the suspect action of Sagar Khadka and Rahul Biswokarma,” Tanka Paneru, the general secretary of Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) informed.

Birgunj Defeats Nepalgunj

Sanjam Regmi scored a half-century and took three wickets as Region No 2 Birgunj defeated Region No 5 Nepalgunj by 58 runs at the TU Ground. Birgunj scored 197/7 in 50 overs with Sanjam scoring unbeaten 56 and Shovakant Pandey getting another half-century of the innings. Nepalgunj opener Mahesh Chhetri continued his good form for 52 but rest of the batsmen failed as they were bowled out for 139 in 45.3 overs.

Pramod Blazes in Kathmandu’s Win

Pacer Pramod Basnet was long out of action but when he finally resumed his national league career after five years he ensured there are all fireworks for his comeback by setting a Region No 3 Kathmandu victory against Region No 6 Baitadi at the Institute of Engineering Ground. Pramod’s five wicket haul wrecked Baitadi who ended their innings at 135 in 36.2 overs while chasing Kathmandu’s 253/7. Baitadi lost by 118 runs.

Raju Basnet Completes 50 Scalps

Records are made to break: for there are some records that could not be broken by any mean – like the first bowler to reach 50 wickets in the national league cricket and that record will always stay with Raju Basnet. Raju, representing Region No 3 Kathmandu since the inception of the region based national league back in 2001, became the first bowler to claim 50 wickets when he returned with career best 5/15 against Region No 2 Birgunj at the TU Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Raju Stars in Kathmandu’s Win

Region No 3 Kathmandu registered a 81-run victory over Region No 2 Birgunj on Sunday in the match that saw may new landmarks achieved in the Springwood National League Cricket Tournament. Sharad Vesawkar his 83, Kathmandu’s best ever score, and partnered Gyanendra Malla for event’s best fourth wicket partnership as the home team scored 203/7 in 50 overs. Raju Basnet returned with career best mark that also made the first bowler to take 50 wickets in the national league to bowl out Birgunj for 122 in 40 overs.

Baitadi Tastes Victory (vs Nepalgunj)

At Lab Ground, the two minnows fought and Region No 6 Baitadi registered their first win – not counting the win they achieved because of Nepalgunj’s forfeit two years ago. The four-wicket win came against the same opponent – Region No 5 Nepalgunj.

Bhairahawa Outplays Biratnagar

The first high profile match of the Springwood National League Cricket turned out to be a lopsided match as four-time champions Region No 1 Biratnagar failed to live up the expectations and suffered a nine-wicket thrashing by defending champions Region No 4 Bhairahawa. Biratnagar were 21/5 in the eighth over – Faizal Khan and Amrit Bhattarai being the destroyers, and never really recovered in their innings of 75 runs in 35 overs. Bhairahawa needed just 15 overs to record the easy win.

Roaring Start for Biratnagar & Bhairahawa

Defending champion Region No 4 Bhairahawa and Region No 1 Biratnagar began the Springwood National League Cricket Tournament with thumping victories on Friday. Biratnagar defeated Region No 5 Nepalgunj by seven wickets at the Lab Ground while Bhairahawa outplayed Region No 6 Baitadi by 196 runs at the TU Cricket Ground. Bhairahawa bowled out Baitadi for 49 in 16 overs.

National League Begins Today

The seventh edition of the Springwood One-Day National League Cricket Tournament begins Friday with defending champion Region No 4 Bhairahawa taking on Region No 6 Baitadi at the TU Cricket Ground and Region No 1 Biratnagar playing Region No 5 Nepalgunj at the Lab School Ground. The inter-region format introduced in 2001 as Birendra Memorial National League will be played under round-robin league format and the top two teams in the standings will compete for the final on April 6.

Nepal to Host ACC U-17 Elite 2008

Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has confirmed Nepal as the host for the ACC U-17 Elite Cup 2008 scheduled for November, Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) informed at a press meet on Tuesday.

National League 2008 from March 28

The Springwood Senior One-Day National League Cricket Tournament 2008 will commence on March 28, Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced on Thursday. The seventh edition of the national league featuring six cricket development regions concludes on April 6 (or April 7, the reserve day for the final) with top two teams from the league competing for the championship.

Twenty20 cricket with dancing divas

Professional Masters XI of Bhairahawa recently organized the Sir Edmund Hillary Memorial Raunak Indo-Nepal Twenty20 Cricket Tournament with an added feature for the first time in Nepal – the dancers. Popularized during the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup, the attractively clad dancers on music played on every four, six and wicket.

West Indies Snatches Plate

West Indies bowlers dished out hostile bowling reminiscent of their glorious predecessors to hammer Nepal by seven wickets in the Plate Championship final of the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup at the Bayuemas Oval on Saturday. The pace attack led by man-of-the-match Jason Dawes, who took four wickets, utilized the early freshness of the pitch to bowl Nepal out for mere 74 runs in 25.3 overs in the rain shortened 27-overs match. The Caribbean batsmen then reached the modest target in just 14.2 overs losing three wickets to take the Plate title away from defending champion.
