Region No 3 Kathmandu and Region No 5 continued their unbeaten run in the Wai Wai Women’s Twenty20 National League Cricket Tournament.
Kathmandu defeated Region No 4 Bhairahawa by 2 wickets as Nepalgunj outplayed Region No 6 Baitadi by 7 wickets at the TU Ground.
Both Kathmandu and Nepalgunj have won all three matches.
Kathmandu restricted Bhairahawa for 94/7 after inviting them to bat first and scored the required runs in 19.2 overs losing 8 wickets with Neera Rajopadhyay playing the captain’s knock.
Neera scored 30 off 37 balls with 2 fours to anchor Kathmandu innings that otherwise lacked valuable contributions. She was out with her team requiring 11 runs from last four batswomen of last three overs
The match hung in balance but Shilu Rijal hit two fours in her swift little innings of 11 not out for the victory.
Earlier, handy contributions from Aarati Bidari (15), Indu Barma (15), Madhu Thapa (11) and Khina Thapa (10) took Bhairahawa to a neat total. Shraddha Thapa and Geeta Khadka each grabbed two wickets while Shilu took one.
In the other match, Sita Rana Magar bowled a devastating spell to help Nepalgunj defeat Baitadi. She took three wickets in the first over – in three consecutive legitimate deliveries – to put Baitadi on backfoot.
Baitadi lost four wickets in seven balls and five wickets for just 2 runs on board. None of their top five batswomen scored a run.
Sita finished with 4/9 while her partner Sita Shahi grabbed 3/11 as Baitadi was bowled out for 63 in 19 overs. More than half, 33 of it, came from extras. Nary Thapa and Samana Pun took a wicket each.
In reply, Manisha Rawal (18 off 32), Sita Rana (9 off 10) and Mamta Thapa (13 off 28) ensured a thumping seven-wicket victory in 14 overs.
