Region No 5 Nepalgunj booked a place in the semifinal of the Wai Wai Women´s National Twenty20 Cricket Tournament beating Region No 1 Biratnagar by eight wickets at the IOE Ground.
Captain Nary Thapa took four wickets to bowl out Biratnagar for 43 in 14.3 overs and scored unbeaten 16 runs as Nepalgunj surpassed the total in 8 overs losing just two wickets.
Trishna Singh scored unbeaten 11 for the winners and Manisha Rawal contributed nine runs. They got extra eight runs. For Biratnagar Rubina Chhetri topscored with 12 while Yengji Sherpa scored six and Rosy Rai hit five. Biratngar got extra 13 runs. Samana Pun and Sita Shahi also took a couple of wickets each. The win put Nepalgunj at the top of the points table with four points from two matches played.
Earlier, in another Group B match, Region No 6 Baitadi defeated Region No 8 Pokhara by 8 wickets to keep alive the hopes of moving to the semifinals.The winner of the Baitadi-Biratnagar match on Jan 9 will join Region No 4 Bhairahawa, Region No 3 Kathmandu and Nepalgunj in the semifinal lineup.
Both Baitadi and Biratngar have won one and lost one match from two matches played. Pokhara is yet to open account in the points table.
Pokhara were bowled out for 48 in 17.5 overs with Ritu Kanojiya and Anjali Chanda taking three wickets each. Rekha Rawal grabbed a couple. Sadikchya Pandey was Pokhara´s topscorer with 16 runs while none other batswomen could cross three runs.
Baitadi reached the target in 7.3 overs with Roshani Bohara scoring unbeaten 25 and Janaki Bhatta netting 10 not out. Maya Rawal was bowled for eight by Aarati Bidari.
On Sunday, Nepalagunj will take on Pokhara during the first match of the day against Pokhara and Biratnagar will lock horns against Baitadi in another.
