Nepali U-16 cricket team leftKathmanduon Wednesday to participate in the ACC U-16 Elite Cup scheduled to be held inKuala Lumpur,Malaysiafrom May 4 to 13.
“We want to return home with the title,” said U-16 skipper Dipendra Chand during a function held at the Dasharath Stadium to bid farewell to the team on Wednesday.
Member Secretary of National Sports Council Yuvaraj Lama and Senior Vice-president of Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) TB Shah bade farewell to the players. Speaking on the occasion, Lama urged the players to perform well in the tournament. “We will be watching your performance and our wishes are with you.”
Coach Manjur Alam Khan said the team woul focus on a match at a time. “Bowling and batting are the key strengths of our team. Our spinners are capable of winning matches for us.”
“There’s pressure on us but we take it as a challenge. We are mentally and physically fit for the tournament.”
Skipper Chand said they have an all-round team. “I want to lift the trophy as we had finished second in the last edition. Though we didn’t have enough practice, we are capable of lifting the trophy.”
