Nepal has entered the semi-finals of ACC U-16 Elite Cup, beating Iran by 167 runs at Bayuemas Oval in Malaysia on Tuesday. This was the third consecutive win for the Nepali boys. Nepal’s dominating performance continued having defeated Kuwait by 79 runs and Bahrain by 8 wickets in its previous two matches.
On Tuesday, batting first, Nepal posted 246 for 8 in the 40 overs. Nepali innings saw two half-centuries with vice-captain Adil Khan scoring 71 as Jagdish Chand scored 51. The score was lifted by Asif Sheikh’s 37.
Chasing a more than run a ball, Iran never looked in pursuit of the target and was folded for 79 in 28 overs, as the last Irani batsman could not take to the field due to injury. For Nepal, Kalicharan Yadav took 4 wickets for 12 runs. Off-spinner from Nepalgunj, Akash Bista took a 4-for as well, giving away 20 runs. The medium pacer from Biratnagar, Yadav had taken four wicket haul in Nepal’s win against Kuwait – the tournament opener.
Adil Khan – who plays for Lalipur in the national set-up – was named man of the match for his 71-run innings.
Nepal plays hosts Malaysia on Wednesday, at Kinrara Oval, in the last league match. Malaysia has also won three matches out of three and entered the semi-final of the championship.
