The Nepal Confederation of Sports (NECOS), sports wing of the CPN-UML, felicitated Nepali national cricket team on Sunday for winning the titles of ICC World Cricket League Division 4 and ACC Trophy Elite.
UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal handed over cash prizes worth Rs 80,555 to the team captain Paras Khadka while UML General Secretary Ishwar Pokharel, Secretary Shankar Pokharel and Central Committee Member Ghanashyam Bhusal handed over mementos to the team members.
“You have made the entire country proud,” said Khanal to the cricketers. “Nepali sports is developing and I know that we still lack infrastructures.”
Speaking at function, captain Khadka urged political parties and concerned authorities to increase investment in cricket.
“It is the only game that can take Nepal to the World Cup in near future. Our only request to the concerned authorities is to invest in cricket and develop infrastructures,” said Khadka.
Nepal had clinched the title of the ICC World Cricket League Division 4 on September 10 beating the USA in the final held in Malaysia on September 10.
Likewise, Nepal finished the ACC Trophy Elite as joint winner as the final match against the UAE ended in a tie on Friday.
