Nepal finishes third as Thailand wins title
Nepal finished the ACC Women’s Championship at the third position as it thrashed Hong Kong by eight wickets in the play-off match played at the Gymkhana Ground, Thailand on Thursday. Nepal elected to field in the match reduced to 19 overs a side. Nepal restricted Hong Kong at 32/9 and successfully chased the low target in 7.3 overs losing two wickets. Nary Thapa bowled four overs including three maiden overs and gave away just one run to claim three wickets as the chief exponent of Nepali bowling. Pokhara wins inaugural match
Region No 8 (Pokhara) defeated Region No 7 (Janakpur) by 35 runs in the inaugural match of the Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Tournament that kicked off in Pokhara Stadium on Thursday. Pokhara elected to bat and put up 227 runs in 49 overs losing all the wickets. Dhurba Karki scored 58 runs off 72 balls while Anil Gurung garnered 46 runs off 77 balls. NCA launches U-12 Youth Program
(Courtesy: Republica and myrepublica.com) Two week after establishment, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) headed by national cricket coach Pubudu Dassanayake conducted U-12 Youth Program, a training program aimed at finding talented young cricketers, at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur on Wednesday. Altogether 332 students from 16 schools of Kathmandu Valley and Kathmandu Cricket Training Center (KCTC) attended introductory sessions on the first day of the program. Nepal collapses to lowest ever total
Nepal’s dream of playing in the final of ACC Women’s Championship came to an end on Wednesday as the Nepali team collapsed to its lowest ever total in the semifinal against Thailand at the Prem Oval in Thailand. Thailand pulled off an emphatic seven-wicket victory after skittling Nepal out for a paltry 38 runs. PentagonInternationalCollege clinched the title of HotelDevoteeSPACupInter-college Cricket tournament here on Tuesday. Pentagon put up all-round performance to beat defending champion NASA International by four wickets in the final. Pentagon, which had suffered semifinal defeats in the last edition, was in no mood to let the opportunity go away this time. Nepal sets up semifinal against Thailand
Nary Thapa put up an all-round performance to seal a six-wicket victory for Nepal over Hong Kong in the ACC Women’s Championship on Monday. The win helped Nepal to finish on the top of the pool A above Hong Kong. Nepal will take on pool B runner-up Thailand in the semifinal on Wednesday while pool B winner China will take on Hong Kong. Pentagon, NASA reach SPA Cup final
Two centuries in a T20 cricket match are rare but the first semifinal match of the HotelDevoteeSPACupInter-College Cricket Tournament between the host Sudur Paschimanchal Academy (SPA) and Pentagon International featured them. Subendu Pandey scored century to guide the host SPA to 182/4 in allotted 20 overs but former national team player Mehboob Aalam clobbered 102 runs to overshadow the former and guide Pentagon to a six-wicket victory in 15.4 overs. Nepali girls ease into semis
Nepal confirmed a semifinal spot along with Hong Kong in the ACC Women’s Championship on Sunday. Nepal defeated Malaysia by seven wickets at Royal Chiang Mai, Thailand while Hong Kong pulled off a thrilling 16-run victory over Bhutan to advance into the semifinals from Pool A of the tournament. Nepal thrashed the UAE by 86 runs on Friday to seal the consecutive second victory in the ACC Women’s Championship, cricket tournament. Nepal elected to bat at the Gymkhana Ground, Thailand and put up 145/5 in allotted 25 overs. In reply, UAE was all out for 59 runs in 22.4 overs. Nepal started the ACC Women’s Cricket Championship campaign with an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Bhutan on Thursday. Nepal takes on Bhutan on Thursday
Nepal is to take on Bhutan in its first match of the ACC Women’s Championship on Thursday at the Prem Oval, Thailand. It is the second meeting between the two national sides in women’s cricket. Nepal had met Bhutan in the ACC Women’s T20 Championship in 2009 and won the match by eight wickets. Host Sudur Paschimanchal Academy (SPA) pulled off a 41-run victory over Siddhanath Multiple Campus on Wednesday to secure berth in the quarterfinals of the Hotel Devotee SPA Cup inter-college cricket tournament being held in Dhangadhi. Woman cricketers eye on title
Nepali women’s cricket team is all set to fly Thailand on Monday to participate in the ACC Women’s Championship with a high morale and expectation of winning the trophy. Cricket governing body of Nepal, CAN, now boasts of a National Cricket Academy. And, whether it goes right or wrong, formation of this institution would be seen in history as turning point for Nepali Cricket, for better or for worse. National Cricket Academy opens
Giving shape to the idea forwarded by national team coach Pubudu Dassanayake some six months ago, Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) formally opened National Cricket Academy (NCA) at the TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur on Tuesday. According to Dassanayake, the national team coach would head NCA along with other coaches and staffers. NCA will provide continuous training facilities to the Nepali national squad, Nepal A, Nepali U-19 team and women’s national team. CAN has appointed Jagat Tamata and Binod Das as coaches and Ram Shiwakoti as data and video analyst at NCA. CAN has set up its office and a gymnasium in the TU Ground storehouse. CAN calls 37 players for closed camp
Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has called 37 cricketers for closed camp training for ACC T20 Elite Cup and ICC World Cricket League Division 3 tournaments. CAN called 35 players based on their performances in the Pepsi Standard Chartered One-Day and T20 National Tournaments held last month. Two other players – former captain Binod Das and Saurav Khanal – earned call-up based on their performances at international level in recent past. Nepal avoids UAE, Afg in ACC T20 group
Nepal would not meet Afghanistan and the UAE in the group stage of the ACC T20 Cup to be held in Kathmandu from March 25 to April 3. Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is yet to publish the draw of the tournament, it is almost sure Nepal would avoid the UAE and Afghanistan in the group stage as ACC usually divides group as per the seeding given to the teams based on the ACC Trophy Elite.
