Nepal thrashed the UAE by 86 runs on Friday to seal the consecutive second victory in the ACC Women’s Championship, cricket tournament.
Nepal elected to bat at the Gymkhana Ground, Thailand and put up 145/5 in allotted 25 overs. In reply, UAE was all out for 59 runs in 22.4 overs.
Madhu Thapa (three runs) and Sita Magar put up a 29-run opening stand before Thapa was caught by Kyna Vedhasinghe off Aysha Naushadkhan in the fifth ball of the sixth over. No 3 Roshani Bohara added just seven runs and departed but Sita Magar anchored the Nepali innings along side Sarita Magar.
Sita and Sarita put up a 41-run partnership for the third wicket. Sita Magar scored 46 runs off 48 balls. She clobbered seven boundaries. She was caught by Veni Praveen off Petule Nadar bowling in the fourth ball of the 16th over.
Nary Thapa joined Sarita Magar at the crease and produced a 33-run stand for fourth wicket. Thapa chipped in with 16 runs while Sarita Magar remained unbeaten for 41 runs off 44 balls. She hit three boundaries. Nepali captain Rubina Chhetri added just five runs while Neera Rajopadhyay remained unbeaten with four runs.
Vedhasinghe was the pick of the UAE bowlers as she claimed two wickets.
Chasing the good total, the UAE failed to build innings and surrendered to Nepali bowling attack. Sonu Khadka dismissed three top order batswomen of the UAE — namely Vedhasinghe, Simrita Sandhu and Petule Nadar. A 16-run partnership between Sandhu and Nadar was the highest of the UAE innings while Humaira Tasneem was the highest scorer with 12 runs.
Karuna Bhandari claimed two wickets while Rubina Chhetri, Nary Thapa and Sarita Magar claimed a wicket each. Magar, who was also involved in a run out, was the most economic Nepali bowler with the figures of 5-2-8-1. She was adjudged player-of-the-match for her all-round performance.
Nepal will take on Malaysia on Sunday at the Royal Chiang Mai Golf Club Ground.
Nepal has defeated Bhutan by eight wickets in its first match of the tournament on Thursday.
