Region No 8 (Pokhara) defeated Region No 7 (Janakpur) by 35 runs in the inaugural match of the Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Tournament that kicked off in Pokhara Stadium on Thursday.
Pokhara elected to bat and put up 227 runs in 49 overs losing all the wickets. Dhurba Karki scored 58 runs off 72 balls while Anil Gurung garnered 46 runs off 77 balls. Gurung and Karki put up a 106-run partnership for the second wicket. Likewise, Manoj Koirala chipped in with unbeaten 31 runs off 53 balls. Janakpur bowlers gave away 38 extras.
Sameer Nepal took four wickets for Janakpur while Shushant Mandal and Abhishek Jha claimed two wickets each.
Chasing the good total, Janakpur was all out for 192 runs in 46.2 overs. Sameer Nepal scored 33 runs off 50 balls while Abhishek Jha remained unbeaten with 33 runs off 35 balls. Pokhara bowled 30 extras.
Man-of-the-match Shushil Kandel claimed four wickets to rattle Janakpur. His bowling figure was 10-1-27-4. Nischal Pandey claimed two wickets for Pokhara.
Region No 2 (Birgunj) will take on Region No 4 (Bhairahawa) on Friday.
