Nepal survives UAE scare
Nepal’s march to the final in front of thousands of supporters was not easy as United Arab Emirates did everything right to earn the honors before putting it in disarray in panic at the TU Cricket Ground. Nepal scored 144/9 in alloted 40 overs after electing to bat first and bowled out UAE for 123 runs in 39 overs to set Thurday’s final with Malaysia, who defeated Qatar by 55 runs at IOE Ground in the other semifinal.

Nepal Enters Semi as Group Winner
Rochak Bhatta led the splendid spells of spin bowling to help Nepal defend 77 and put Nepal into the semifinal of the ACC U-17 Elite Cup with a 28-run victory over Hong Kong at the BSAM Ground, Bhaktapur on Saturday. Rochak took four wickets in his seven overs spell to bowl out Hong Kong for 49. It was second defeat of Hong Kong in three matches and they are now out of race for last four. Qatar beat Singapore by three wickets at IOE Ground to become the second semifinalists from Group A.

Nepal beats Qatar for good start
Nepal started its ACC U-17 Elite Cup campaign with a thumping 104-run win over Qatar at the Institute of Engineering Ground, Pulchowk on Wednesday. Skipper Prithu Baskota vindicated his decision to bat first topscoring with 38 runs as Nepal posted a challenging total of 208/8 in the allotted 40 overs. His bowlers then proved the total to be impregnable dismissing the Qataris for 104 runs in 23.5 overs despite a majestic 72 from captain Tamoor Sajjad.

BCB Complete Clean Sweep
Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) U-17 learnt hard lessons as Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) U-17 clean swept three-match one-day friendly with an emphatic 96-run victory at the TU Cricket Ground. Helped by Nurul Hasan Sohan’s century, the visitors piled 269/8 in allotted 45 overs and restricted the hosts for 173/8.

BCB U-17 Take the Series
The result of the second one-dayer against visiting Bangladesh Cricket Board U-17 was not different from the first one, as Cricket Association of Nepal U-17 lost by seven wickets, but the match proved that Nepali youngsters are good in learning from every matches. CAN U-17 improved a little in batting to score 106 in 37.3 overs and put the visitors in trouble with three early wickets before a fine partenrship helped the Test nation’s youth team to register an easy looking victory.

BCB U-17 Begin With an Easy Win
Visiting Bangladesh Cricket Board U-17 team took a 1-0 lead in the three match series after an easy eight-wicket win against Cricket Association of Nepal U-17 team at the TU Cricket Ground, Kathmandu. The home team, preparing for the ACC U-17 Elite Cup, was bowled out for 62 in 30.3 overs. The guests completed the victory in 27.2 overs losing just two wickets.

U-17 National from Nov 6
The Under-19 National Cricket League will be held from November 6 to 15 in Kathmandu, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) said in a release. The event, to be participated by all six cricket development regions of the country, will be played on round-robin league format with top two teams vieing for the championship in the final slated for November 15. TU Cricket Ground and Institute of Engineering (IOE) Ground will host the event.

Nepalgunj Girls Lift National Trophy
The men from Nepalgunj might have proved nothing in the national level, but the women are certainly dominating as they lifted the champion’s trophy of the Wai Wai Women’s National Cricket Tournament remaining undefeated throughout. Region No. 5 Nepalgunj won the women’s national trophy for the second time defeating neighbors Region No. 6 Baitadi by 18 runs in the final at the TU Cricket Ground.

Cricket featured on all categories when Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) announced nominees for the nation’s most prestigious sports awards – the NSJF LG Player of the Year Award. Paras Khadka (nominated in three categories) and Nary Thapa (nominated in two categories). Among 27 nominees announced in five categories, 10 were from cricket – four more than football, which has six nominations. Cricket and football is the dominating sports in Nepal.
