Men’s T20 begins with Kathmandu’s record win
Defending champions Region No 3 Kathmandu thrashed Region No 2 Birgunj in a record-breaking match of the Pepsi Men’s Twenty20 Cricket Tournament at the IOE Ground. Kathmandu scored 194/5 in 20 overs and restricted Birgunj for 132/6 for a huge 62-run victory on the opening day while Region No 1 Biratnagar defeated Region No 5 Nepalgunj by 9 wickets.

Second victory for Kathmandu, Nepalgunj
Region No 3 Kathmandu and Region No 5 Nepalgunj registered their second victories in the Wai Wai Women’s Twenty20 National Cricket Tournament at the TU Ground. Kathmandu beat Region No 1 Biratnagar by 5 runs while Nepalgunj outplayed Region No 2 Birgunj by 10 wickets. It was second loss for both losing sides.

Players end boycott, league to begin
Cricketers withdrew their boycott after talks with Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) as both parties agree to form a seven-member committee to strengthen relations between them. The players will now compete in the Pepsi Twenty20 National League, beginning on May 30 – a day late than scheduled. “CAN expressed commitments towards our demands,” captain Paras Khadka told Cricket Nepal. “We will play in the national leagues.”

Players boycott national leagues
National players announced that they would boycott the national leagues beginning Saturday protesting the indifference of Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) towards development of cricket. “We will continue training at the closed-camp because the World Cricket League Division IV is a very important tournament for the nation’s cricket,” captain Paras Khadka said in a press conference. “But we will not play the national leagues.”

National leagues announced as monsoon begins
Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced three national leagues within a month in yet another haste decision as the seasons of monsoon begins in Kathmandu. On May 29, two national leagues – the Pepsi Men’s Twenty20 National League and the Wai Wai Women’s National Twenty20 National League – are scheduled to begin. On June 8, a day after the finals of both events, the Pepsi Men’s One-day National League begins.

WCL Div IV on astro-turf: a setback for Nepal
The International Cricket Council (ICC) decision to conduct the Pepsi World Cricket League Division IV on the artificial turf in Italy is likely to hit Nepal hard. Although, major events are held on natural turf, the event from August 14 to 21 will be held on the astro-turf as the hosts do not have the natural turfs. “This is shocking,” Binaya Raj Pandey, the president of Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), said.

No change in Div 5 results: ICC inquiry
International Cricket Council (ICC) investigation committee has recommended continuing with the results of the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 5. The committee, formed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crowd trouble during February 26 Nepal-USA match in Kathmandu, rejected the Singapore Cricket Association (SCA) demands of their promotion to Division 4 in the ground of fairness.

Lankan women cancels Nepal tour
The Colombo District Women’s Cricket Association team cancled its tour to Nepal, according to Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN). The visiting team was scheduled to play two matches on April 21 and one on April 24 at the TU Cricket Ground against Nepal’s women team.

Sharad hits century as Nepal beats Fiji
Sharad Vesawkar was omitted from the preliminary squad for the World Cricket League Division 5 and was the last minute inclusion after a pull-out. He wanted to prove decision of his exclusion wrong and he did it perfectly. Sharad scored an unbeaten century, only third in Nepal’s history of one-dayers with a skill and form that reminded many of his talents and potential. His century brought Nepal a 193-run victory over Fiji at the TU Ground.

Blazing Paras brings easy victory
Captain Paras Khadka will probably declare the BSAM Ground his favorite for his two innings there has produced him two thumping victories, two half-centuries and two man-of-the-match awards. His unbeaten 71 against Bahrain brought Nepal an eight-wicket victory and pushed his team towards the qualification to World Cricket League Division 4. It was third victory in as many games for Nepal in the WCL Div 5.
Spinners give Nepal nervous win
Nepali bowlers held their nerves to defend a lowly total against Singapore and register a 16-run win at the IOE Ground in the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 5 on Sunday. Nepal bowled out Singapore for 164 in 47.5 overs after scoring 180/9 in 50 overs. The heroes of the win were the Regmi duo of Basant and Sanjam who dominated the proceedings in either innings.
Paras leads victory over Jersey
Paras Khadka played a captain’s knock as Nepal made a winning start in the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 5 defeating Jersey by six wickets at the BSAM Ground. USA’s Steve Messiah made it a captain day playing the leading role in its huge 285-run victory over Fiji at the IOE Ground while Singapore overcame Bahrain challenge by 126 runs at the TU Ground.
PM Nepal inaugurates WCL Div 5
Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Friday inaugurated the Pepsi World Cricket League Division 5 amidst a funtion at the Soaltee Crowne Plaza in Kathmandu. “The government is determined to develop cricket as the national sport,” PM Nepal said while inaugurating the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 5 in Kathmandu.

Target is to win every game: Dias
Nepal’s target in the upcoming Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 5 will be to ‘win every game’, according to coach Roy Dias. Cricket Nepal talked to Dias, the former Sri Lankan Test player, during USA’s practice match against Kathmandu at the TU Cricket Ground. Excerpts:
Team announced for WCL Div 5
Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced the national team for the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 5 to be held in Kathmandu from February 20 to 27. Birgunj’s Anil Mandal has been included in the national team for the first time. A slot for opening batsman was empty after experienced Paresh Lohani pulled out of the team citing personal reasons.

Road to WC 2015 passes through Nepal
The long and winding journey towards the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 makes its next stop in Nepal shortly with six teams competing in the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 5 (WCL Div. 5) from 20 to 27 February. The WCL gives the ICC’s Associate and Affiliate Members a clear pathway towards qualification for the pinnacle event of the limited-overs game.

National Team defeats U-21 in practice
After losing out Twenty20 by a wicket, National Team made the contest even with a 90-run victory over the U-21 Team in a 40-over practice match at the TU Cricket Ground. National Team scored 193/9 in 40 overs – thanks to Shakti Gauchan’s 82 after Paras Khadka chose to bat first. In reply, U-21 Team was bowled out for 103 in 30 overs.
Paresh pulls out of WCL Div 5
Paresh Lohani, Nepal’s most successful batsman has pulled out of the ICC World Cricket League Division 5 training citing personal reasons. Paresh, 30, informed Cricket Association of Nepal about his inability to participate in the six-nation event to be held in Kathmandu from February 20-30.

Sharad excluded for WCL Div 5
Sharad Vesawkar will not be showcasing his batting when Nepal competes in the World Cricket League Division 5 in Kathmandu in February 2010 as Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) axed him from the national team. CAN named 18-member squad for the closed-camp training and Vesawkar is the only name missing from the national team ranked fifth in the ACC Twenty20 Elite Cup in UAE last month.

Pepsi, Standard Chartered to sponsor senior team
Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) signed a five-year deal with Pepsi and Standard Chartered Bank for the sponsorship of the senior national team and one-day as well as Twenty20 national tournaments. According to the deal, worth Rs. 3m, Pepsi will be the sponsor of the team while Standard Chartered will be the co-sponsor. The deal has to be renewed annually.

Nepal defeats LBSCC in friendly T20
Touring Nepali national team registered a two-wicket win over the Lal Bahadur Shastri Cricket Club (LBSCC) in a Twenty20 friendly match. LBSCC scored 97/9 in 20 overs and Nepal completed the victory with three balls and two wickets remaining.
Nepal begins Delhi warm-ups with two defeats
Nepal is warming up in New Delhi, India for the upcoming Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Twenty20 Elite Cup in an invitation of Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA). On Nov 15 Sunday, Nepal played two Twenty20 matches against DDCA XI and lost both but not without producing some good performances. Nepal lost the first match by 26 runs and second match by seven wickets.

Passport holders only for Asian Games
Cricket will make its debut at the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China in November next year, and the eligibility rules that states that only passport holders can play for a nation leave some of the regions cricket teams in somewhat of a selection quandary.

ICC confident of successful WCL Div 5
Andrew Faichney, International Cricket Council’s Development Events Manager, said that ICC is confident that the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 5 is going to be a huge success. At the conclusion of his three-day visit to Nepal to assess the facilities for the January 2010 event, Faichney added that ICC had put a lot of trust in past in Nepal looking at the nation’s love for cricket.
