PICTURE STORY: Cricket in Baglung
Baglung is a small hilly city 72km from Western city of Pokhara – 271km from Kathmandu. When I reached there for my personal visit, I was pleasantly surprised to see a few kids playing cricket at the ground of the Mahendra Multiple Campus. The backdrop for the game: world’s seventh highest peak Mt Dhaulagiri standing tall at 8,167m from sea level.

AsianCricket.org Interview: Binaya Raj Pandey
This interview is originally published in the official website of Asian Cricket Council. Binaya Raj Pandey became President of the Cricket Association of Nepal in September 2006, having previously been an Honorary Secretary of the Association for 39 years. Small in stature, soft-spoken and exquisitely mannered, he brings with him the shrewdest of minds, the most adroit diplomac skills and an ability to slowly but surely, get things done. We spoke to him in Kuala Lumpur soon after the start of his term in office when he sought to outline his plans to overhaul cricket in Nepal to the ACC Secretariat. On his return to Kathmandu things indeed started happening – major sponsorships were announced, domestic cricket was revamped and… Read More

Paresh Lohani: The Resurrection
Paresh Lohani’s century in the first innings against Singapore was a kind of resurrection for the long-serving national cricketer. His 103 not only made him the only batsman to score two centuries for Nepal but also justified the faith of the team management on him.

Binod’s 50: Yet Another Achievement
If anybody is qualified to be the icon of Nepali cricket, then it is Binod Das – the lean fast bowler representing the country since 1997. The 23-year-old lad of Kalaiya added one more feather to his already glittering cap by taking his 50th scalp in two-innings cricket.

New President, New Vision
For Binaya Raj Pandey, the newly appointed president of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), there are quite a few things to sort out. The mismanagement and lack of development initiatives in the Nepal cricket’s governing body have long derailed the future of the game. But with Pandey back in power with his experience of efficiently serving it for 39 years as honorary secretary and the knowledge of the demerits of conflicts, the cricketing fraternity of Nepal is hopeful that his appointment will bring back Nepali cricket on the right path.

ACC Review: Matter of Experience
Nepal’s ACC Trophy 2006 campaign ended in two disappointing defeats. It was more disappointing not because we lost to two better teams – eventual winners UAE and Afghanistan but because we lost the opportunity to play in the Asia Cup and then in the World Cup Qualifying Series. And, also because Hong Kong, whom the Nepali cricket team convincingly defeated in the league round, reach the final of the event earning the rights to play in both tournaments.

Setting a Right Example
It seems that new era of sports have begun in the country with the real story of Nepalese sportsman winning a car worth 2.3 million in a domestic sporting event. It’s definitely a ray of hope for every sports person in the country that sports will soon become a career option. It seems that All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) team has clearly understood the basic fundamental that professionalism in the game is indispensable to improve its standard beyond certain level.

Domestic Cricket: A Matter of Concern!!
All the cricket lovers in the country including me are building high hopes with Nepalese cricket. Why should not we? As we have seen some inspirational performance by our Nepalese team at both junior and senior level in recent past. However, being a cricketer my worries aggravates when I see the deteriorated domestic structure cricket in the country. For the development of the cricket it is imperative to have good domestic structure of the cricket.

Review 2005: A Year to Be Remembered
Year 2005 will go into the history book of Nepali cricket as a successful year. Despite the year started with two heart-breaking news they just proved ghosts of 2004, an unsuccessful year, and as the year proceeded it brought glorious moments.

CAN Need to Think About Profits
Last week I happened to be in the press meet organized by ICC development committee in Kathmandu. Cricket’s top most governing body’s head Mr. Ishan Mani (President ICC) and Mr. Malcam Speed (CEO) also spoke about cricket of Nepal. They expressed their appreciation for the performance of Nepalese Cricket Team at junior level. However, they also expressed the need for replicating junior level performance at senior level for Nepal’s transition to ODI status.

Cricket on the Lap (or Height) of Himalaya
‘Where do you play cricket, in the Himlayas?’ It”s normal for Nepali cricketers to face such queries during international tours. They always try to convince the curious people by saying the country is not only Himalayas, but the youngsters in this remote district of Humla have different answer: they play cricket on the lap of Himalayas.

FAN SPEAKS: Professionalism Needed
By Yadumani Gautam No doubt, Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) is one of the best sport governing bodies in Nepal. Everyone knows it’s easy to be best buts it’s difficult to maintain that place. Same is with CAN. Although it is best, it lacks professionalism.

Nepali Team Needs Team Spirit
By Pawan Agrawal Nepal is all set to take on Hong Kong in a three-day fixture in Hong Kong from October 29. The preparation of the Nepali team is almost over after it lost against UAE in the home ground. I don’t have any idea about what the Nepali team specifically worked on after the defeat. As far as I understand, there was nothing lacking in terms of skills, techniques and talents.
