Baitadi lifts U-19 title again
Baitadi (Region No 6) has lifted the trophy of Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Championship for the second time. In the final played today, Baitadi defeated Pokhara (Region no 8) by 96 runs at the TU Cricket Ground. Baitadi skipper and man-of-the-match Prem Tamang lifted his team with both bat and ball as Pokhara batsmen flopped in the final. Baitadi started badly, losing both its openers with just 16 runs on board, after being put in to bat first. But Baitadi middle order batsmen saved the day putting up a challenging total of 153 runs in 49 overs losing all wickets in the process. Kathmandu crashes out
Region No 3 (Kathmandu) crashed out of the group stage of Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Tournament on Saturday following its second defeat in a row. Kathmandu suffered a three-wicket defeat at the hands of Region No 6 (Baitadi) to become the first team to crash out from Group A with a match in hand. Kathmandu opted to bat first and was bowled out for 129 runs in 38.5 overs in the match played in Pokhara, Kaski. In reply, Baitadi made 131 runs in 29.4 overs losing seven wickets. Nepalgunj beats Baitadi by four wickets
Region No 5 (Nepalgunj) defeated Region No 6 (Baitadi) by four wickets in a group round match of the Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Tournament in Pokhara on Friday. Nepalgunj bowled out Baitadi for 112 runs in 26 overs as Bhupendra Roka Magar took four wickets and Akash Bista claimed three. Prajwal Shahi then played a crucial innings of 35 runs off 41 balls as Nepalgunj met the target in 25.1 overs losing six wickets. Rain washes-out yet another match
Rain in Pokhara washed out yet another match of Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Tournament here on Wednesday. The first match of the pool A between Region No 1 (Biratnagar) and Region No 5 (Nepalgunj) was called off after the completion of an innings. The match was initially reduced to 27 overs each. Biratnagar won the toss and elected to field first. However, the rain stopped the match in the mid of innings. Nepalgunj was all out for 132 runs in 26.4 overs. Bhairahawa, Birgunj reach semis
Region No 4 (Bhairahawa) and Region No 2 (Birgunj) secured semifinal berths from the pool B in the Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Tournament being held in Pokhara as rain washed-out Tuesday’s match between Bhairahawa and Region No 8 (Pokhara). Following the no result on Tuesday, Bhairahawa and Pokhara shared a point each and Pokhara suffered crash out from the tournament. Pokhara wins inaugural match
Region No 8 (Pokhara) defeated Region No 7 (Janakpur) by 35 runs in the inaugural match of the Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Tournament that kicked off in Pokhara Stadium on Thursday. Pokhara elected to bat and put up 227 runs in 49 overs losing all the wickets. Dhurba Karki scored 58 runs off 72 balls while Anil Gurung garnered 46 runs off 77 balls. Gurung and Karki put up a 106-run partnership for the second wicket. Likewise, Manoj Koirala chipped in with unbeaten 31 runs off 53 balls. Janakpur bowlers gave away 38 extras. U-19: Kathmandu, Bhairahawa win
The opening day of the Wai Wai U-19 National League saw some extraordinary performances as Region No 3 (Kathmandu) and Region No 4 (Bhairahawa) registered big victories. Subash Khakurel scored 140 as Kathmandu amassed 322/9 in 50 overs to beat Region No 5 (Nepalgunj) by 144 runs at the IOE Ground, Pulchowk. At TU Ground, Bibek Chaudhary took 7 wickets to bowl out Region No 2 (Birgunj) for 61 in 19.1 overs as Bhairahawa win by 60 runs.

Birgunj lifts U-19 National title
Region No 2 (Birgung) became the U-19 national champions defeating Region No 5 (Nepalgunj) by 99 runs in the final of the Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Tournament at the TU Cricket Ground on Sunday. Led by captain Akash Singh Pariyar and Kanchan Thapa’s knocks, Birgunj scored 169 in 49 overs before bowling out Nepalgunj for 51 runs in 21.1 overs.

Biratnagar finishes fifth
Region No 1 Biratnagar secured fifth position after defeating Region No 6 (Baitadi) by five runs in the rain-marred fifth place playoff at the BSAM Ground on Friday. Biratnagar were 129/3 in 32 overs chasing Baitadi’s 157 when rain prematurely ended the match. Biratnagar were five runs ahead under Duckworth Lewis System and declared the winner.

Birgunj qualifies for semifinal
Region No 2 Birgunj filled in the final spot in the semifinal lineup of the Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Tournament defeating Region No 6 Baitadi by 54 runs on Thursday. Birgunj will now play Region No 3 Kathmandu who defeated Region No 5 Nepalgunj by three wickets to finish at the top of the table of Group A. Nepalgunj plays Region No 4 Bhairahawa on other semifinal.

Lal Bahadur Adhikari’s second man of the match helped Region No 4 (Bhairahawa) register a three-wicket win over Region No 6 (Baitadi) at TU Ground and confirm a place in semifinal of the Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Tournament on Wednesday. Kathmandu, Bhairahawa register wins as U-19 begins
Region No 3 (Kathmandu) and Region No 4 (Bhairahawa) registered victories on the opening day of the Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Tournament on Tuesday. Riding on captain Gyanendra Malla’s unbeaten 48, Kathmandu defeated Region No 1 (Biratnagar) by six wickets at the TU Cricket Ground while Lal Bahadur Adhikari’s all-round performance gave Bhairahawa a 29-run victory over Region No 2 (Birgunj) at the BSAM Ground.

ACC U-19 fixture released
Four-time defending champions Nepal will start the 2009 ACC U-19 Elite Cup campaign with Saudi Arabia on April 22 in Kuwait, according to Asian Cricket Council (ACC). The winner of the event will represent Asia in the ICC U-19 World Cup 2010 in Kenya. Nepal has represented Asia in the world event five times in a row.

At 138/9, the team that scored tournament highest 326 looked like heading for a defeat; but Rom Shrestha, the fat-boy, had other ideas. It was the match that produced just 168 runs apart from two splendid bowling figures. It also confirmed the semifinal berth for Biratnagar and Kathmandu and ended Baitadi’s campaign in the Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Tournament with the second defeat. In a low scoring match, Region No 1 Biratnagar beat Region No 6 Baitadi by 14 runs at the TU Cricket Ground.

Hadn’t Region No 5 Nepalgunj inexperienced in match practice, they would have registered an amazing win over two-time defending champions Region No 4 Bhairahawa in the Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Tournament at TU Cricket Ground. But they weren’t and Bhairahawa registered a 29-run victory.
