Birgunj loses third, Baitadi victorious

Region No 2 Birgunj almost lost any chance of progress in the ongoing Wai Wai Women´s T20 National Cricket Tournament as Region No 1 Biratnagar handed them a third straight defeat on Monday at the TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur. Biratnagar thrashed Birgunj by a huge margin of 59 runs.

Defending champions Region No 3 Kathmandu thrashed Region No 2 Birgunj in a record-breaking match of the Pepsi Men’s Twenty20 Cricket Tournament at the IOE Ground.

Players end boycott, league to begin

Cricketers withdrew their boycott after talks with Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) as both parties agree to form a seven-member committee to strengthen relations between them.

The players will now compete in the Pepsi Twenty20 National League, beginning on May 30 – a day late than scheduled. “CAN expressed commitments towards our demands,” captain Paras Khadka told Cricket Nepal. “We will play in the national leagues.” Continue reading

National players announced that they would boycott the national leagues beginning Saturday protesting the indifference of Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) towards development of cricket.

National leagues announced as monsoon begins

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced three national leagues within a month in yet another haste decision as the seasons of monsoon begins in Kathmandu.

On May 29, two national leagues – the Pepsi Men’s Twenty20 National League and the Wai Wai Women’s National Twenty20 National League – are scheduled to begin. On June 8, a day after the finals of both events, the Pepsi Men’s One-day National League begins. Continue reading

WCL Div IV on astro-turf: a setback for Nepal

The International Cricket Council (ICC) decision to conduct the Pepsi World Cricket League Division IV on the artificial turf in Italy is likely to hit Nepal hard.

International Cricket Council (ICC) investigation committee has recommended continuing with the results of the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 5.

In an attempt to lift the ACC Elite Cup Trophy for the first time, Nepal will take on tournament favorites Afghanistan in the final at Hubara Ground of Kuwait on Friday.

Afghanistan, with One-Day International (ODI) status and qualifiers for the ICC World Cup Twenty20, won the ACC Twenty20 five months ago and are a favorite to add one more feather to their cap.

1000 runs for Shakti Gauchan

Shakti Gauchan, 26, became the first Nepali cricketer to complete 1,000 runs in international one-dayers during his half-century against Malaysia in the ACC Trophy Elite 2010 semifinal match at the Hubara, Kuwait.

He now has 1,034 runs from 44 innings of 52 matches at an average of 27.95. His half-century on Wednesday was his fourth while he has also scored 106 not out against Italy.

For a cricketer, who had not remained in the limelight, the achievement speaks more about his dedication and commitment to cricket. Continue reading

Nepal survived a spirited Malaysian run-chase to set a date with Afghanistan for the ACC Trophy Elite 2010 title with an eight-run victory at Hubara, Kuwait.

Nepal displayed an all-round performance to beat Kuwait by 8 wickets in the last league match of the ACC Trophy Elite 2010 at KOC Hubara, Kuwait.
