CAN Reshuffled, Shah Remains Prez

In an attempt to make Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) more effective, National Sports Council (NSC) has reshuffled the executive committee yesterday.

The change despite rectifying the conflict within it due to fractions failed to make any major change.

President Jai Kumar Nath Shah will continue his reign despite not being able to ensure Nepal’s place in the upcoming Asia Cup. He as the vice-president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) signed the decision that deprived Nepal a chance to play in the ODI event.

Binaya Raj Pandey, who served as secretary effectively for a long time, has been excluded from the newly formed committee. He held the post of vice-president and was largely inactive. Secretary Pradeep Raj Pandey, who had rarely been able to spare his time for cricket, was also relieved of his post in favor of Laxman Prasad Bastola, who was the joint secretary.

Sri Niwas Rana and Tarini Bikram Shah, cosidered close to president, has kept their posts as vice-presidents while Sri Harsha Koirala has lost it.

Shashi Raj Subedi, the treasurer, has lost his post but still in the committee as a member. Subedi was largely criticized along with the president for the Roller Scandal that saw Nepal buying sub-standard rollers paying expensively.

Pradeep Karki, the former cricketer, has been promoted to treasurer from member.Ashok Nath Pyakurel was given the position of joint-secretary.

“There are lots of tasks ahead for this committee and I hope, after granting them a good teamwork, they would carry out all those with ease,” member-secretary of NSC Kishor Bahadur Singh told the Post adding that the committee would be dissolved again if it fails to perform as per expectation.

“A team spirit is needed not only in the field but also outside the field and I am convinced that the major task for this committee is holding an election within three months,” he addressed the newly appointed members during a welcome program held at the premises of NSC today. The member-secretary also handed over the nomination letter to the members.

“There is no room for dispute now and I assure we would hold election very soon as per the directives of NSC,” newly appointed secretary Laxman Bastola said. Bastola has taken the issues of Asian Cricket Academy, official sponsors, U-19 Asian Cup in Nepal in the priority list for CAN’s upcoming programs. Nepal is the main contender to host the U-19 Asia Cup Cricket tournament and it will be decided after inspection team from ACC inspects the proposed venue at Bhaktapur (Army School), Pulchowk (Engineering College), Tundikhel and TU, Kirtipur.

The other selected members are: Shahi Raj Subedi, Uday Shamsher Thapa, Diwakar Ghale, Kiran Shamsher Rana, Basanta Raj Satyal, Anil Kumar Shah, Rajesh Pathak, Sunil Hamal, Chatur Bahadur Chand, Indra Rai, Prem Century, Asha Gurung, Thakur Pratap Shah and NSC representative.
