Baluwatar Cricket Club to Award Cricketers

Baluwatar Cricket Club will honor eight cricket players during the anniversary program on Sunday, club president Upendra Prasad Bhattarai announced here today.

The club which is also running a cricket academy, Baluwatar Cricket Club Training Center, will award cash prizes along with certificates and trophy on the occasion this year. Bhattarai had announced the annual award two years ago on the inauguration of the academy but was unable to do so last year.

“This year, the club will award best players of both the years,” Bhattarai said. Two players – one each of 2060 and 2061 – will receive the award in each category.

The four category of the award are as follow:

  1. Best Player of the Year – Rs. 5,000 + trophy + certificate
  2. Best Youth Player of the Year – Rs 4,000 + trophy + certificate
  3. Best Player of Baluwatar CC – Rs 3,000 + trophy + certificate
  4. Best Player of BCC Training Center – Rs 3,000 + trophy + certificate

The national player who has performed best in the international arena in the award year representing senior team will receive the Best Player of the Year while the player performing best internationally representing age-group national teams will receive the Best Youth Player of the Year.

A selection committee including Kantipur’s sports journalist Rajendra Gyawali, The Kathmandu Post’s Ujjwal Acharya and Nepal Samacharpatra’s Binod Pandey will select the winners in the first two categories. For the last two categories, club president Bhattarai, club captain Nagendra Bhattarai, coaches Arun Aryal and Samsan Jung Thapa will select the awardees.

Meanwhile, newly appointed Under-19 captain Kaniska Chaugai, former U-19 captain and national vice-captain Shakti Gauchan and Sarad Vesawkar will also receive their cash prize for their performance in the Youth World Cup in Bangladesh in February 2004.

BCC president Bhattarai had announced various cash bonus to the players performing best in Bangladesh when he was the assistant manager of the team. Shakti, who was man of the match in two wins including the big one against South Africa, will receive Rs. 5,500 while Kaniska will get Rs. 5,000. Sarad, who scored two half-centuries, will receive Rs. 6,000.
