CAN XI beats MCC by 103 runs

Nepali side equaled visiting Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) by registering a thumping 103-run victory in the second of three limited over match on Monday at TU Cricket Ground.

CAN Secretary XI scored 249/8 in 50 overs – thanks to unbeaten 67 by Sarad Vesawkar and bowled out MCC for 146 in 40.5 overs.

After winning the toss, Binod Das elected to bat first. The opening pair of Dipendra Chaudhary (22) and Subash Khakurel (6) put on 31 runs before Peter King got both of them out in space of a run.

Shakti Gauchan and Gyanendra Malla then patiently put on a formidable batting display adding 74 runs in 16 overs. Gyanendra was out after scoring 33 off 41 balls while Shakti was bowled after scoring 39 off 68 deliveries with five fours.

Both of them fell to spinner Nishel Patel, who had claimed seven wickets in the first match. Patel added two more by getting Paras Khadka (6) and Aamir Akhtar (10) as Nepal went down to 149/7 in the 39th series.

Captain Binod Das (7) and Rahul Kumar BK (8) did not make much impact but Sarad and No 10 Pramod Basnet did. The pair added quick runs partnering 82 runs for ninth wicket in 45 balls.

Sarad his four boundaries and four sixes in his 63-ball knock to produce 67 runs while Pramod got 34 off just 24 balls with four boundaries and a six. The pair collected 22 runs in the last over bowled by captain Keith Parsons.

Apart from Nishel, King and Iain Fletcher each walked away with two wickets.

MCC batsmen played with technique waiting for bad balls and had a good opening stand of 47 runs. But Matt Walker (15 off 49) and Fletcher (35 off 52) ate away 15 overs.

Once spinners came into action, it was all difficult for the English batsmen to play shots. Captain tried to lead from front scoring 50 off 63 balls before edging counterpart Binod but other batsmen could not mutter runs. The only other batsman to get double figure was Neil Jones (17).

Shakti began bowling by three maidens and finished the match at 3/15 in 10 overs and walked away with man of the match award. Binod and Rahul took two wickets each.

MCC will play one-off Twenty20 match against CAN on Tuesday.
