Birgunj, Bhairahawa continue winning

Region No 2 Birgunj and Region No 4 Bhairahawa continued their winning streak with victories on the second day of the Boost U-16 National League Cricket Tournament.

Birgunj defeated Region No 6 Baitadi by 35 runs at TU Cricket Ground and Bhairahawa beat Region No 1 Biratnagar by 122 runs at the IOE Ground. It was second defeats in as many matches for both losing teams.

At TU, Birgunj won the toss and elected to bat first. A century opening partnership between Chakra Prakash and Rahul Pratap Singh put them on top of the match.

They scored 123 runs in 27 overs before Chakra (60 off 80 balls with 8 fours) was bowled by Dipendra Chand. Rahul followed soon scoring 53 off 92 with five fours and a six.

Contributions from Gopal Singh (23 not out off 11) and Avisekh Singh (20 off 19) took them to 213/7 in alotted 40 overs. Dipendra, used as seventh bowler, was the most successful bowler with 4/57 while Jagdish Chand took 2/26.

Baitadi made a good chase of the score but it proved too high for them. They were bowled out for 178 in 39.1 overs. Yuddha Bikram Chand (42 off 44), Sameer Nagarkoti (36 off 75), Dipendra (26 off 35) and Birendra Bista (22 off 24) nearly turned the tables.

Man of the match, Rahul took six wickets to add to his half-century whiel Mustakim Miya took two. Captain Avinash Karn took a wicket.

At IOE, Hari Chaulagain and Navin Shrestha took four wickets in different innings but it was Navin who ended up with the man of the match trophy and in the winning team.

Winning the toss, Biratnagar elected to bat first and scored 177 in 39 overs. Kiran Pandey (in the photo) led from the front with 49 off 47 and was unlucky to run himself out. Prakash KC (28 off 22) and Kasam Thapa (17 off 42) contributed a few runs as Bhairahawa utilized 40 extras to get a good total.

Biratnagar captain Hari finished at 4/48 while Rimesh Regmi took 3/27.
