CAN to revise statute

Newly elected president of Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), Tanka Aangbuhang, said that a committee will be formed for amending the CAN statute soon after the executive committee gets its full size.

The general assembly of CAN that concluded in Chitwan on Sunday elected a 17-member executive committee and 14 others are set to be nominated either by the president or by the executive committee.

“The ICC regulation that restricts government interference on the association´s functioning must be included in the statute within the given deadline. The statute must also be amended to strengthen the rights of districts and regions,” said Aangbuhang.

A group led by former general secretary Tanka Paneru has been claiming that the general assembly and the election held in Chitwan did not conform to the ICC regulations.

Though Aangbuhang panel has maintained that they have a deadline for including the ICC provisions, the Paneru panel has been claiming that the provisions should have been included immediately after receiving ICC´s letter to CAN on November 11, before the recently held elections.

ICC´s letter on November 11 to CAN states that the new provisions should be introduced with immediate effect. Member-boards would be given until June 2012 to comply with the requirements set out in the new provisions, failing which they would be provided with a model constitution or suitable provisions for implementation.

Meanwhile, newly elected President Aangbuhang said that he would give top priority to develop infrastructure and take CAN structure to grassroots level of the Nepali cricket.

“We´ll develop the grounds in Mulpani and Pokhara into a national ground and also build infrastructure in other parts of the country,” said Aangbuhang.

He also said that the new committee will develop a National Cricket Academy temporarily at the TU Cricket Ground and a permanent one at the Mulpani Ground.

Aangbuhang said that his team plans to turn the vision of developing Nepal as a neutral cricketing venue for countries like Pakistan and India into reality.

“We are seeking more sponsors for our cricket teams and for developing infrastructure also. Meanwhile, we are in contact with embassies of India, Australia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka for seeking partnership in infrastructure development,” claimed Aangbuhang.
