Cricket dominates Sports Awards nomination

Cricket dominates the NSJF Pulsar Sports Award 2067 nominations as the organizers Nepal Sports Journalists Forum announced nominations for four main categories.

Paras Khadka, Rubina Chhetri, Prithu Baskota, Pubudu Dasanayake, Jagat Tamata and Navin Singh – all nominated for various awards in NSJF Puslar Sports Awards 2068.

National captain Paras Khadka, who won the awards in 2010, has been nominated for Best Player (Male) while U19 captain Prithu Baskota has been nominated for fourth year for Best Player (Youth).

Rubina Chhetri has been also nominated alongside Prithu while Pubudu Dasanayake, Jagat Tamata and Navin Singh have all been nominated for Best Coach.

Each categories have five nominations and the winners will be announced on July 4 amidst a function in Kathmandu. The Awards is the biggest sports awards in Nepal.

Paras who will compete against players from swimming, athletics, gold and equestrian for the award. He has been nominated for captaining APF to victory in sixth national games and one-day nationals, Nepal to seventh place in the World T20 Cup qualifies where he was man of the match three times in five wins.

Prithu, who missed the awards in last three occasions, is nominated for his contribution in Nepal’s qualifications to the U19 World Cup.

Rubina was nominated for captaining Nepal to third victory in the ACC Women Cup where she was also selected the player of the tournament for 96 runs and 13 wickets, including a hat trick.

Pubudu coached Nepal in World T20 Cup qualifiers and ACC T20 Cup, in both of which Nepal performed better than its earlier performances.

Jagat was the coach when Nepal qualified for the U19 World Cup and Navin was coach of women’s team in ACC Women Cup.

The nominees were selected by a team of 8 sports journalists comprising of Mahesh Acharya (coordinator), Binod Pandey, Ujjwal Acharya, Prajeet Shakya, Himesh Bajracharya, Nabin Khatiwada, Sarita Shrestha and Raju Ghising.
