CAN selects 22 players for closed camp

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) called 22 players in the first round of the closed camp for the ACC Emerging Teams Cup to be held in Singapore from August 17 to 25. The first round of the closed camp training will start Wednesday.

CAN has called Paras Khadka, Subash Khakurel, Sharad Vesawkar, Gyanendra Malla, Amrit Bhattarai, Prithu Baskota, Shakti Gauchan, Sanjam Regmi, Basant Regmi, Ram Naresh Giri, Jitendra Mukhiya, Sagar Pun, Binod Bhandari and Naresh Budhayer for the closed camp. Likewise, Pradeep Airee, Chandra Sawad, Yagyaman Kumal, Anil Mandal, Rahul Vishwakarma, Binod Das, Mahesh Chhetri and Avinash Karna are the other players selected for the camp.

Nepal has been drawn along with India, Pakistan and Afghanistan in Group A in the 50-over format tournament. Similarly, group B consists of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the UAE and Singapore. Test nations India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will field their U-23 teams in the tournament.

The top three teams of the ACC Trophy Elite Cup held in October 2012 were given chance to compete in the event. Nepal and the UAE had finished joint winners in the tournament following a tie in the final. Afghanistan had finished third.

Singapore secured berth as the host. Asian Cricket Council is organizing the tournament for the first time.
