Former captain Shahi passes away

Former captain of Nepali national team Ganesh Shahi is no more. Shahi passed away on Friday morning at around 5:30 in Vivekananda Hospital in the Indian city Lucknow. He was suffering from liver infection. He had been residing in the Indian city Bahraich for past few years. Shahi was the captain of Nepali side when it played in ICC Trophy (now defunct) in 2001 played in Canada, qualifying tournament for Cricket World Cup 2003. He replaced Raju Khadka as captain after Canada did not give visa to four Nepali cricketers including Khadka. Shahi debuted for Nepal in first Nepali international cricket participation in 1st ACC Trophy, in Malaysia, in 1996. He played his last international match as captain in 2001… Read More

Nat’l cricket from Dec 11

The Pepsi Standard Chartered National One-Day Cricket Tournament will begin on December 11, Tuesday with nine teams, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced. The cricket team of Armed Police Force will be joined by 8 regional teams for the tournament in Kathmandu. CAN said that the Twenty20 National Cricket League will be begin on December 23. The One-Day Cricket Tournament will be played at two grounds and matches will commence at 8:45 am to accommodate full quota of overs on winter days. Nepal won its first match in the Blind Cricket World Cup on Sunday as it thrashed Bangladesh by nine wickets at the LD Srinatham Stadium in Bangalore, India. Nepal elected to field first and restricted Bangladesh to 154/7 in the allotted 20 overs. Blind cricket chair elected Asian Dev Director

Pawan Ghimire, the chairman of Cricket Association of the Blind (CAB) Nepal, has been unanimously re-elected as the Asian Development Director of the World Blind Cricket Council (WBCC). According to CAB general secretary Sugam Bhattarai, Ghimire was elected during the WBCC Annual General Meeting and Convention in Banglore, India. Ghimire was proposed by Pakistan and seconded by South Africa during the meeting for a two-year term. “Ghimire will work for another two years under Sayed Sultan Shah, the newly elected WBCC chairman,” CAB release added. Army School, Bhaktapur and Galaxy Public School,Kathmandu secured semifinal berths in the Wai Wai Indo-Nepal U-16 T20 Cricket Tournament on Thursday. ACC T20 Cup from March 23

Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Thursday announced the date of March 23 to April 1, 2013 for the Fourth ACC T20 Cup, which was already declared to be in Nepal. It is the consecutive edition of the ACC T20 Cup being held in Nepal. Nepal had hosted the third edition of the tournament in Kathmandu last year. Nepal had reached the semifinal of the tournament and qualified for the World T20 Qualifier, where Nepal had finished on the seventh position. Wai Wai Indo-Nepal U-16 Cricket Tournament is all set to kick off in Kathmandu on November 20. Eight schools of Nepal and four teams from India will participate in the event. NMB Bank clinched the title of the 14th Soaltee Crowne Plaza Super Sixes, a corporate cricket tournament, on Friday. CAN launches fast bowling camp

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) started the first-ever fast bowling camp at the Tribhuvan University Ground, Kirtipur on Friday with the aim of producing fast bowlers for the future. The camp will conclude on Monday. Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Development officer and former Sri Lankan fast bowler Rumesh Ratnayake is taking charge of the camp as ACC development officer. Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) appointed Rubina Chhetri Belbasi the captain of Nepali national women’s team for the upcoming ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup. Nepal defeated Malaysia by 21 runs on Wednesday to reach the consecutive final of the ACC Trophy Elite.
