Dipendra hits century as MCC loses

Dipendra Chaudhary scored 107 against Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) to script a nine-wicket victory in the last limited over match at the TU Cricket Ground. Dipendra coincidently had scored 107 six years ago when MCC toured Nepal in 2003 in the last match of the tour to give Nepali side the lone victory. The difference is that he remained unbeaten and it was third victory in four matches for the hosts.

Dipendra helps CAN beat MCC

Nepali team has registered second victory over Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) defeating the visitors by five wickets in the one-off Twenty20 match at the TU Cricket Ground on Tuesday. Man of the match Dipendra Chaudhary scored a half-century to help CAN T20 Team complete the victory target of 125 in 18.2 overs. MCC had scored 124/5 in its innings.

CAN XI beats MCC by 103 runs

Nepali side equaled visiting Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) by registering a thumping 103-run victory in the second of three limited over match on Monday at TU Cricket Ground. CAN Secretary XI scored 249/8 in 50 overs – thanks to unbeaten 67 by Sarad Vesawkar and bowled out MCC for 146 in 40.5 overs.

MCC begins Nepal tour with victory

Visiting Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) began Nepal tour with an eight-run victory over CAN President’s XI at the TU Cricket Ground on Friday. Nepal managed only 138 in 41.4 overs after spinner Nishel Patel took seven wickets while MCC were 77/4 in 25.2 overs when the rain interrupted the match and the visitors won the match on DL method.

MCC leaves London for Nepal

An MCC squad has set out for Kathmandu for a two-week tour during which they will play five games and hold three coaching sessions with local cricketers, an MCC release on Wednesday stated. The party includes former England spinner Min Patel, former Sussex and Glamorgan all-rounder Keith Newell, and former Somerset stalwart Keith Parsons.

MCC to play five matches in Nepal

The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) will play three 50-over matches, a Twenty20 game and a three-day match in Kathmandu when they tour Nepal in March. According to the schedule, MCC, the English club based at Lords’, will arrive Kathmandu on March 18 and leaves on April 1. They will play limited over matches on March 20 (against Nepal Red), March 21 (against Nepal Blue) and March 22 (against Secretary’s XI).

11th SA Games to feature cricket

Twenty20 cricket will be featured in next year’s South Asian Games in Dhaka, Bangladesh, a meeting of the South Asian Olympic Council decided on Monday. The eleventh edition of the SA Games will be held from January 29 to February 8 with 23 events in 11 games, the 39th executive meeting of the council in Kathmandu agreed on.

Nepal survives UAE scare

Nepal’s march to the final in front of thousands of supporters was not easy as United Arab Emirates did everything right to earn the honors before putting it in disarray in panic at the TU Cricket Ground. Nepal scored 144/9 in alloted 40 overs after electing to bat first and bowled out UAE for 123 runs in 39 overs to set Thurday’s final with Malaysia, who defeated Qatar by 55 runs at IOE Ground in the other semifinal.

Nepal Enters Semi as Group Winner

Rochak Bhatta led the splendid spells of spin bowling to help Nepal defend 77 and put Nepal into the semifinal of the ACC U-17 Elite Cup with a 28-run victory over Hong Kong at the BSAM Ground, Bhaktapur on Saturday. Rochak took four wickets in his seven overs spell to bowl out Hong Kong for 49. It was second defeat of Hong Kong in three matches and they are now out of race for last four. Qatar beat Singapore by three wickets at IOE Ground to become the second semifinalists from Group A.

Nepal beats Qatar for good start

Nepal started its ACC U-17 Elite Cup campaign with a thumping 104-run win over Qatar at the Institute of Engineering Ground, Pulchowk on Wednesday. Skipper Prithu Baskota vindicated his decision to bat first topscoring with 38 runs as Nepal posted a challenging total of 208/8 in the allotted 40 overs. His bowlers then proved the total to be impregnable dismissing the Qataris for 104 runs in 23.5 overs despite a majestic 72 from captain Tamoor Sajjad.

Dias confident about winning U-17

Talking to Roy Dias before a tournament is monotonous – because he always has similar things to say. Some of his permanent phrases include ‘we could have more training’, ‘we are not looking at the final, we will take it match by match’ and ‘our opponents are tough’. This time also, he was not much different. But, yes, he was a little different on a topic. “My gut feeling is that this side is good,” the 56–year-old Sri Lankan said after a training session at the TU Cricket Ground. “I will be very disappointed if we don’t win the tournament.”

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) U-17 learnt hard lessons as Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) U-17 clean swept three-match one-day friendly with an emphatic 96-run victory at the TU Cricket Ground. Helped by Nurul Hasan Sohan’s century, the visitors piled 269/8 in allotted 45 overs and restricted the hosts for 173/8.

BCB U-17 Take the Series

The result of the second one-dayer against visiting Bangladesh Cricket Board U-17 was not different from the first one, as Cricket Association of Nepal U-17 lost by seven wickets, but the match proved that Nepali youngsters are good in learning from every matches. CAN U-17 improved a little in batting to score 106 in 37.3 overs and put the visitors in trouble with three early wickets before a fine partenrship helped the Test nation’s youth team to register an easy looking victory.

BCB U-17 Begin With an Easy Win

Visiting Bangladesh Cricket Board U-17 team took a 1-0 lead in the three match series after an easy eight-wicket win against Cricket Association of Nepal U-17 team at the TU Cricket Ground, Kathmandu. The home team, preparing for the ACC U-17 Elite Cup, was bowled out for 62 in 30.3 overs. The guests completed the victory in 27.2 overs losing just two wickets.

Cricket Dominates PoY Nomination

Cricket featured on all categories when Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) announced nominees for the nation’s most prestigious sports awards – the NSJF LG Player of the Year Award. Paras Khadka (nominated in three categories) and Nary Thapa (nominated in two categories). Among 27 nominees announced in five categories, 10 were from cricket – four more than football, which has six nominations. Cricket and football is the dominating sports in Nepal.
