ICC medals for 5 Nepali officials
International Cricket Council (ICC) has conferred five Nepali cricket officials by the ICC Centenary Medals for their long contribution in the development of cricket. Those who received the medals are CAN president Binaya Raj Pandey, former vice-president TB Shah, secretary Shashi Dutta Pandey, vice-president Naresh Shrestha and vice-president Upendra Prasad Bhattarai.

3 Nepali Umpires in WCL Div VI
International Cricket Council (ICC) has named three Nepali umpires to officiate matches of the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 6 tournament in Singapore. Buddhi Bahadur Pradhan, Binaya Jha and Sanjay Gurung will officiate in the tournament that is a part of the 2015 World Cup with top two teams moving to Division 5 to be held in Nepal January next year. The Division 6 is scheduled from August 29 to September 5.

Mission Malaysia: Girls get ready
It was pleasant to witness national cricket coach Roy Dias shouting at Nary Thapa to hit the ball over his head for a six and women”s coach Pradip Pandey telling Sonu Khadka to bowl on the line of off stump at the Tribhuwan University Cricket ground, where the women”s cricket team in undergoing closed camp training for the upcoming ACC Women”s Twenty20 Championship. Eighteen girls are in training, fighting for a place in the final 14 for the national team for the event scheduled to be held in Malaysia from July 3 to 11.

Music video to celebrate ICC’s 100 years released
Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) released a promotional music video to celebrate the ICC Centenary Year 2009 in association with Nepal Tourism Board (Nepal Tourism Board). The video, produced by CAN and NTB on request of International Cricket Council, is directed by Surya Thapaliya. Pramod Kharel sang the song, Mero Desh Pyaro Nepal (My Country Lovely Nepal), written and composed by himself.

Squad named for ACC Women T20
Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced the 18-member preliminary squad from among the 25 players in the closed-camp training for the ACC Women’s Twenty20 Championship. For the first time since Nepal began international participation, Nary Thapa will not be captaining the side as Ritu Kanaujiya has been named the captain for the side.

Raju Basnet calls it a day
After almost 12 years of highly successful domestic and unexplainably fluctuating international cricket career, Raju Basnet has called it a day. At 30, Raju helped Region No 3 Kathmandu become the inaugural national Twenty20 champions and announced his retirement from national and international cricket.

Kathmandu wins national T20
The final of the Springwood National T20 Cricket Tournament exemplified the best of Twenty20 – the nail-biting finish and it was Region No 3 Kathmandu who held its nerves to defeat Region No 4 Bhairahawa by three runs in a splendid finish at the TU Ground.

Kathmandu continues unbeaten run
Region No 1 Kathmandu maintained a perfect record winning the last league match against Region No 5 Nepalgunj to remain unbeaten while Region No 2 Birgunj finished a forgettable event with the fourth defeat – this time against Region No 6 Baitadi by six wickets at the TU Cricket Ground.

Biratnagar, Bhairahawa en route to final
The contest of the ongoing Springwood National T20 Cricket Tournament now remains in two matches – one is obviously the final and the other is the match between Region No 1 Biratnagar and Region No 4 Bhairahawa – who both with victories on Sunday play the last league match on Tuesday as the semifinal. On Sunday, Biratnagar defeated Nepalgunj by eight wickets and Bhairahawa defeated Baitadi by three wickets to finish two three wins from four matches. It was third loss in as many matches for the far western teams.

Kathmandu reaches final unbeaten
Region No 3 Kathmandu entered the final of the Springwood National T20 Cricket Tournament with the fourth win in as many matches – this time over Region No 1 Biratnagar by 8 wickets. In the match that looked like a rehearsal for final, Kathmandu restricted Biratnagar for 109/9 with Abhaya Rana leading from front with 4/28 and scoring the required run in 17.3 overs losing just two wickets – thanks to Paresh Lohani’s 57. In the other match of the day, Region No 4 Bhairahawa beat Region No 2 Birgunj by a wicket to remain in contention for the remaining berth in the final.

Anil stars in Birgunj’s first win
Region No 3 Kathmandu won third match in row defeating Region No 6 Baitadi by 13 runs as Region No 2 won their first match of the Springwood National T20 Cricket Tournament at the TU Cricket Ground. Kathmandu scored 137/6 and restricted spirited Baitadi for 124/7 – thanks to Dipendra Chaudhary’s all-round performance. In Birgunj’s victory, Anil Mandal did the same to restrict Region No 5 Nepalgunj for 85/8 to register a 15-run win after his team scored 100/9.

Biratnagar, Bhairahawa wins in T20
Two far-western teams began their campaign with defeat at the Springwood National T20 Cricket Tournament on June 4 as Region No 5 Nepalgunj lost to Region No 4 Bhairahawa and Region No 6 Baitadi was beaten by Region No 1 Biratnagar at the TU Ground. Basant Regmi helped Bhairahawa register a 33-run victory while all-round performance by Ajay Rajbanshi gave Biratnagar a six-wicket victory and sent the eastern team at the top of the table tied with Region No 3 Kathmandu.

Kathmandu go atop T20 table
Region No 3 Kathmandu registered second victory to go atop the points table of the Springwood National T20 Cricket Tournament as Region No 2 Birgunj suffered second successive loss at the TU Ground on June 3. Kathmandu beat Region No 4 Bhairahawa by 4 wickets chasing 99 while Birgunj lost to Region No 1 Biratnagar by 39 runs.

Dipendra lifts Kathmandu to victory
Dipendra Chaudhary hit a half-century as hosts Region No 3 Kathmandu raced to an easy 43-run victory over Region No 3 Birgunj in the inaugural match of the Springwood T20 National Cricket Tournament on Tuesday at TU Cricket Ground. Man of the match Dipendra scored 67 off 50 balls and partnered 100 runs with captain Paras Khadka to help Kathmandu reach 157/7 in 20 overs. Birgunj in reply could only manage 114/7.

Inaugural nat’l T20 from June 2
The inaugural Twenty20 national cricket tournament will begin on June 2, Tuesday, according to Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN). The six-team inter-region Springwood Twenty20 National Cricket Tournament will also serve for the selection of players for the ACC Twenty20 Cup.
