Cricket leads Sports Awards nomination

Cricket leads the nomination in the NSJF Pulsar Sports Awards with six being nominated in various categories in the biggest sports award of the country.

The NSJF Pulsar Sports Awards set for September 10 will award sports personalities in eight awards, and the Player Selection Committee headed by NSJF secretary Mahesh Acharya revealed five nominations in four main categories.

Rahul Kumar Biswokarma leads the nomination in the Best Male Player of the Year. Rahul is nominated along with Deepak Maharjan of Boxing, Rohit Chand of Football, Bilam Lal Shrestha of Chess and Shyam Shrestha.

Rahul is also nominated for the Popular Player of the Year, an award that’s selected from the SMS votes from public.

Prithu Baskota, Sarita Magar and Nary Thapa are nominated for the Youth Player of the Year, an award for all those players under 21 years, along with Anish Shrestha of Table Tennis and Phupu Lhamu Khatri of Judo.

Jagat Tamata and Shaymsom Jung Thapa will be on for the Coach of the Year award along with Football’s Dhruba KC, Boxing’s Prachanda Sharma and Gyanendra Nakarmi of Bodybuilding.

There is no nomination from cricket for the Female Player of the Year.

Nepal Sports Journalists Forum, the umbrella organization of professional sports journalists, will also award players in Best Para-athlete of the Year, Special Award and Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Player Selection Committee consists of Binod Pandey, Himesh Bajracharya, Prajeet Shakya and Ujjwal Acharya.
