Nepal drawn with Lanka, Pakistan

Nepal will play Sri Lanka in opening day of the SAARC Twenty20 Cricket Tournament as it is drawn in a tough group. Nepal is drawn in Group B along with Karnataka Institute of Cricket (KIC) of India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Bangaldesh’s team, Afghanistan, Bhutan and hosts Maldives are drawn in Group A.

Pakistan Embassy suppports CAN

The Embassy of Pakistan in Kathmandu handed over cricket equipment to Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN). Pakistan Embassy Charge d’ Affaires Ahmar Ismail handed over 50 sets of Pakistan made cricket equipment to National Sports Council (NSC) Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama, CAN President Binay Raj Pandey and Vice President Upendra Bhattarai.

Ratnayake inspects Pokhara ground

Rumesh Ratnayake, the Development Officer at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), visited the construction site of the Pokhara Cricket Ground. “He inspected the ground as ACC is financing it,” Kaski District Cricket Association chairman Devendra Praju said. “He was also informed about the situation of ground and other infrastructure.”

Nepal to participate in SAARC T20

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) confirmed that Nepal will participate in the SAARC Under 25 Twenty20 Cricket Tournament to be organized in the Maldives from October 31 to November 7. CAN also announced 14-member team under Paras Khadka to participate in the event. Gyanendra Malla is named Paras’ deputy.

Want Nepal in higher rank: Dassanayake

Former Sri Lankan and Canadian Cricketer Pubudu Dassanayake will be in Kathmandu next week as the coach of Nepali cricket team. Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) appointed 41-year-old Dassanayake for the job on August 23. Dassanayake, who guided Canada to the World Cup 2011 as a coach, is expected to take the Nepali cricket to a higher level. In this scenario, Nabin Khatiwada and Binod Pandey spoke with Dassanayake over the telephone on Sunday.

Nary wins Youth Player of the Year

Nary Thapa won the Youth Player of the Year award at the NSJF Pulsar Sports Awards 2067. Para-athlete Bikram Rana, who participates in cricket and athletics, won the Parathlete of the Year award as football, cricket and boxing lead the biggest sports awards of the country with two awards each. As winners, they received Rs. 30,000 cash along with gift hampers from Timex, College of Medical Sciences, Dish Media Network, Buddha Air, Cherry World and New Horizon Carpet.

Cricket leads Sports Awards nomination

Cricket leads the nomination in the NSJF Pulsar Sports Awards with six being nominated in various categories in the biggest sports award of the country. The NSJF Pulsar Sports Awards set for September 10 will award sports personalities in eight awards, and the Player Selection Committee headed by NSJF secretary Mahesh Acharya revealed five nominations in four main categories.

CAN decides to appoint Dasanayake

An executive committee meeting of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) approved Sri Lankan Pubudu Dasanayake for the post of national coach. A technical committee led by CAN Vice-president Shree Harsha Koirala had earlier recommended the names of Dasanayake, another Sri Lankan cricketer Charith Senanayake and English cricketer of Pakistani origin Aftab Habib for the job.

Dasanayake set to become Nepal’s coach

Sri Lanka´s former Test cricketer Pubudu Dasanayake is all set to take the job of the coach of Nepal. If all goes as planned, executive committee meeting of Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Tuesday will appoint Dasanayake as successor of Roy Dias. A technical committee led by CAN Vice President Shree Harsha Koirala shortlisted Dasanayake, another Sri Lankan cricketer Charith Senanayake and England cricketer of Pakistini origin Aftab Habib for the job. The technical committee also includes CAN General Secretary Tanka Paneru, Secretary Tarak Mani Dixit and Members Arun Satyal and Uttam Karmacharya.

Queensland to host ICC U19 WC 2012

Cricket Australia (CA) and the Queensland Government announced that Queensland will host the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2012. The partnership between the International Cricket Council (ICC), CA, Queensland Cricket and Events Queensland will see Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Townsville hosting teams from around the globe in August next year, with Australia, as current defending champion, aiming to go back-to-back on home soil. Nepal is one of the qualifiers to participate in the event.

Nepal ends on high note beating USA

Nepal ended the ICC U-19 World Cup Qualifiers on high note, and second place, beating USA in the final league match by 99 runs. The result also meant that USA failed to qualify for the Youth World Cup. USA needed to beat Nepal at the Limavady Cricket Club to get through.

Nepal beats PNG, qualifies for U19 WC

Nepal registered a 29-run win over Papua New Guinea to confirm it’s qualification to the ICC U-19 World Cup 2012. At the Coleraine Cricket Club, Nepal posted its most impressive performance yet with the bat. Nepal made 277 for seven in its stipulated 50 overs and bowling out PNG for 248.

K Karki receives reprimands for breaching conduct

Krishna Karki, along with three other players, has been reprimanded and warned after breaching the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel at the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Ireland. Krishna has been found guilty of breaching Article 2.1.1, which relates to the ICC’s clothing and equipment regulations.

Canada upsets Nepal

Canada upset Nepal by registering a three-wicket win in a low-scoring match as Ireland, Afghanistan, Scotland and PNG also registered wins in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Ireland. Nepal was bowled out by Canada for 106 in 42.5 overs with only wicketkeeper Pradeep Airee making 22.

Nepal thrashes Vanuatu

Nepal beat Vanuatu by 159 runs at the YMCA Cricket Club on the day in which Ireland, Namibia, Scotland and USA also registered wins in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Dublin, Ireland. Nepal posted 250 after opting to bat first with handy knocks from Sagar Pun (51: 66b, 8×4) and Naresh Budayair (50: 87b, 4×4, 1×6). Nepal?s varied attack then shot out Vanuatu for a paltry 91 in 30.5 overs to earn a whopping win.

Seamers help Nepal beat Kenya

Opening seamers grabbed six wickets as Nepal beat Kenya by 6 wickets in the ICC U19 World Cup Qualifiers in Ireland. Afghanistan, Canada, Scotland and USA also registered wins on the day. Nepal’s bowlers impressed against Kenya. The varied attack of Nepal bowled out Kenya for a meagre 107 in 48.5 overs at the Railway Union Cricket Club. Seamners Avinash Karn (3-27), Krishna Karki (3-27), spinners Bhuvan Karki (2-9) and Rahul Vishvakarma (2-26) shared the wickets for Nepal.

Scotland back on track beating Nepal

Scotland proved to be too strong for Nepal at the Merrion Cricket Club. Scotland batted first after a rain delay and was bowled out for 214 in 49 overs. Freddie Coleman’s 81 off 102 balls with six boundaries negated Nepal bowler Bhuwan Karki’s 5 for 41.

Nepal proves too good for Afghanistan

Nepal prevailed over Afghanistan in one of the keenly awaited contests of the day at the Leinster Cricket Club. Nepal’s wicketkeeper-batsman Subash Khakurel held the innings together with a 92 ball-54 studded with five boundaries. Nepal was bowled out for 154 in 44.3 overs as Afghanistan bowlers shared the wickets around.

Confident Nepal leaves for Ireland

CAN announces U-19 WC qualifier squad

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Wednesday announced 18-member squad for the upcoming ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup qualifiers. Prithu Baskota will lead the Nepali team in the event scheduled to be held from July 28 to August 9 in Ireland.
